MIDLAND, Mich. - Aug. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- 10 Keys to Getting a Life, But Still Having a Wildly Successful Wellness Program (http://www.hesonline.com/employee-wellness-products/free-stuff/needtoknow/life) is a recent Health Enhancement Systems guideline that features 10 ways for HR and wellness professionals to enhance work-life well-being. One of many guidelines featured in the company’s Need to Know series, 10 Keys to Getting a Life is based on 20 years experience in the wellness industry.

“We’ve worked with wellness professionals daily for the past 2 decades,” explains Dean Witherspoon, founder and President of Health Enhancement Systems. “With this one-page guideline we've captured ways to achieve balance between maintaining an outstanding wellness program and a well rounded life away from work — and how these areas complement each other.”

It’s easy, as the guideline points out, for wellness managers to become so engrossed in employee health that they neglect their own lives. 10 Keys to Getting a Life offers simple and effective remedies to this problem, such as:

Power down every day. Unplug from all electronics at least once a day. Use the intervals to practice mindfulness meditation, go for a brisk walk, play with your kids or pets, or cook a healthy meal from scratch.
Establish healthy boundaries. Health promoters often wear multiple hats, and things can pile up quickly. Set clear priorities and learn to say no to or delegate less important tasks. Clarify expectations about off-time availability for calls and emails; don’t let work interfere with your home life.
Walk your talk. Even wellness professionals need a health tune-up every so often. Meet with a registered dietitian, a certified personal trainer, or a health coach as needed to make sure you’re on the right path to feel your best. Need help with serious stress? Contact your employee assistance program or ask your doctor for a counseling referral.
Manage your energy. Include natural energy boosters in your daily schedule — like exercise, a nutritious breakfast, and frequent activity breaks. Do your best to avoid energy busters — like sugary foods, sitting for long stretches, and too much screen time. If certain people drain you, figure out how to interact less or learn new ways to respond.

“It’s important for wellness professionals to engage themselves in the types of activities they’re trying to sell to coworkers all day,” Witherspoon confirms. “But at the same time it’s essential to escape professional life. This allows career advancement while investing in self and family.”
