Linton Elementary Lion Lion Dash & Wellness Fair

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Aug. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- FORT COLLINS, CO – AUGUST 15, 2013 – Linton Elementary School is taking the lead for student health by participating in a nationwide wellness initiative. Community-focused and fun, Fuel Up to Play 60 is activating schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which help educate students and curb obesity. In partnership with the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL), Linton Elementary/Poudre School District and its students are recruiting friends, parents, teachers and business and community leaders to join them in pledging to adopt healthier behaviors, such as choosing foods encouraged by the United States Department of Agriculture, which has also joined the initiative, and committing to 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

 

To Kick-off the program, Linton Elementary will begin the school year with The Linton Lion Dash and Wellness Fair.  The 2^nd Annual Lion Dash is scheduled for Friday, September 6^th, 2013 at Linton Elementary School, North Fields, 4100 Caribou, Fort Collins, CO  80525 from 5:30 to 8:00pm. The event includes a 2 mile walk/run followed by many fitness based activities such as soccer, ZUMBA, sand volleyball, SNAG golf, Cross Fit for at Risk Youth, YOGA and more. There will also be education and resource tables provided by The Fort Collins Soccer Club, Boy Scouts of America, Healthy Kids Club, and others.

 

"The Lion Dash aligns perfectly with our school wellness goals of increasing awareness of the value of exercising 60 minutes a day, eating well and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” says Heather Mills, Event Coordinator. “The Dash kicks off our school year by confirming that Linton is committed to health and wellness.  It's a great way to share many healthy and fun activities with our students, families, friends and our Fort Collins Community.  There is something for everyone!!"
