Doha, 14 August 2013 - Leaders in the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and road safety industries from around the region are set to unveil the latest project updates and industry developments at the ITS and Road Safety Forum Qatar 2013.  This event is commissioned by Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior and the National Traffic Safety Committee and supported by The One Second campaign.

This event comes at a time when Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal, is focused on implementing sophisticated Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), in order to provide a multi-mode, safe, efficient and sustainable transport network. Ashghal demonstrated its commitment to the delivery of safe road infrastructure through the integration of technologies and transport systems, and the launch of their ‘ITS Masterplan’ project. This project will be delivered before 2017 and will include sustainable and adaptable solutions in advance of 2022. It also follows the launch earlier in the year of the National Road Safety Strategy which will be discussed in detail at the forum.

The ITS and Road Safety Forum Qatar 2013 will bring together over 200 international and local executives who are shaping the future of ITS and road safety in the region. It offers the opportunity to discover best-practice methods for effectively managing ITS and road safety projects, hear case-studies from regional experts on overcoming the challenges of integrating new systems with existing infrastructure, keep up-to-date with cutting-edge advances in technology and win more work by identifying client expectations. Over 20 companies including Shell, Maersk Oil, Algosystems, Traffic Tech, and AECOM will showcase their ITS and road safety solutions at the exhibition alongside the forum.

Confirming the support of the forum, Brig. Eng. Mohamad Al Malki, Expert in the Office of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs and Member and General Secretary of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, Qatar, noted “We are proud to continue our support of the ITS and Road Safety Forum Qatar with the National Traffic Safety Committee, Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal and IQPC.  We see this as an excellent opportunity to support the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in spreading awareness on road safety especially among our younger generation.  Road safety is a major concern in our society as road traffic accidents claim many lives each year and cause severe physical disabilities to a large number of people, especially among the younger generation. This forum will act as a platform to discuss these issues and the latest solutions available.”

“This international forum and exhibition will be dedicated to showcasing state-of-the-art technology and methods for improving traffic management and transport safety within Qatar and the region” added Conference Director Ashley Phillips. “It will also act as a platform to review the 360 degree approach needed to tackle the safety and movement of the roads in Qatar and the role everyone can take in making this happen.”
