Amazing Myths and Interesting Fun Facts

All lawn care service is the same, so the lowest bidder will be just as good as the rest. Wrong! Newton’s fourth law states…A cheap lawn service will provide cheap work (Ok, so maybe Newton didn’t say that but he should’ve).

All lawn care service is the same, so the lowest bidder will be just as good as the rest.

Wrong!  Newton’s fourth law states…A cheap lawn service will provide cheap work (Ok, so maybe Newton didn’t say that but he should’ve). In these hard economic times everyone is trying to pinch and save, which of course is a good thing but not when you are going for the lowest bidder in lawn service.  Sometimes you get what you pay for.  At Amazing Blades we always make our prices competitive but we keep our customers coming back to us by providing quality service.  Sadly most of our new customers come to us because they went with the lowest bidder first. We get bad lawns looking great and then we keep them looking great.

Myth #2

Giving your Lawn water every day is critical to keep it lush and green.

False!  Well sort of.  Yes it is important to keep watering your lawns, but a light watering is not as important as a deep watering.  Your lawn needs 1-1.5 inches of water per week so that it can retain the water deep in the soil.  At Amazing Blades we think the best way to measure how much water your lawn is getting is with a rain gauge. Of course you can also use any container you have available, as long as in doesn’t have any holes in the bottom.

Myth #3

Weeds are stronger than grass.

Nope. Actually one of the best weed killers out there is a strong lush healthy lawn.  When a lawn is healthy it will crowd out most weeds including the infamous crab grass.  Amazing Blades will give your lawn all the nutrients it needs to be strong and healthy.  Of course this may mean that from time to time your lawn might require some weed prevention. However, for the most part a healthy lawn will keep itself relatively weed free.

Myth #4

If I cut my lawn short I won’t have to mow it as often.

100% True…not really.  The reason why you won’t have to mow as often is because you won’t have a lawn left to mow.  For a lawn to look good it needs to be neat and even but not necessarily short.  Longer blades will keep the grass healthy and also help to retain moisture.  This is especially important in the summer months where dry soil is the number one killer of grass.  Amazing Blades will keep your lawn trimmed, neat, and at just the right length.

Myth #5

Fertilizing my lawn just means I have to get it cut more often.

NO way man!  The fertilizer that Amazing Blades use on all lawns helps to make the grass grow thicker and greener but it does not make it grow taller than normal.  Fertilizers can be important in some areas where much of the nutrients have been removed from the soil.  A timed release fertilizer will continually release the fertilizer into your lawns soil over time.

Myth #6

If I buy these spiked shoes I can aerate my lawn and get healthy exercise!

Actually that’s just you repeating that late night infomercial you saw.  Amazing Blades knows there is only one way to properly aerate your lawn.  The process is called core aeration and it involves removing 1 to 3 inch soil cores (or plugs) about 1 to 2 feet apart from one another.  Not only does this allow more water and nutrients to reach the deep root layer but it also allows gasses that have built up in the soil to be released.  It only needs to be done a few times a year and is recommended for happy healthy lawns.

Myth #7

Always rake leaves in your yard.

OK this one is not wrong it’s just not the best answer.  Although dead leaves can smother your lawn raking leaves is not the only way to go.  Chopping up the leaves in a lawnmower and then follow up with a winter lawn fertilizer can turn your leaves into soil.  This can save you a lot of work in the spring time. Of course at Amazing Blades we come prepared to handle all of your lawn care needs all year round.

Myth #8

One grass seed is just as good as another.

Putting down any old grass seed and expecting it to grow is like taking a bikini to the Arctic and expecting to be warm.  Different grass seeds grow at different temperatures, at different elevations, at different times of the year, in dry climates, wet climates, and everywhere in between.  Amazing Blades knows exactly what type of grass seed your lawn needs for the environment it is in.
