MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Aug. 13, 2013 - PRLog --
The Honda Civic 2-door and 4-door models were awarded the highest available rating in the all-important Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) front-end crash tests. This news was greeted with a good deal of enthusiasm by the team at Team Honda, a premier Honda dealership serving northwest Indiana (http://www.teamhondaon30.com/team-honda-about-us/) — they see it as further confirmation that Honda remains one of the leading carmakers when it comes to vehicle safety.

A total of 12 compact and subcompact vehicles were tested by the IIHS, with half of them judged as “Poor” in the stringent crash testing. Four received an “Acceptable” rating, and two were judged as “Marginal.” Only the two Civic models achieved the highest rating of “Good.”

The IIHS crash tests are more thorough than those conducted by the National Highway Safety Administration. Among the battery of front-end tests, the IIHS includes a “small overlap” test, which they began just last year. In this test, the effect of a collision to a quarter portion of the front end, which in most vehicles is not connected to the built-in impact-absorbing structure, is evaluated. These types of collisions account for approximately one quarter of all frontal crashes that result in serious, sometimes fatal, injuries.

The Honda Civic has also been awarded with a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS. This is the most coveted safety award in the industry, with only 25 vehicles to date having earned this distinction.

Loaded with some of the most advanced safety systems available, the 2013 Honda Civic (http://www.teamhondaon30.com/2013-honda-civic/) features the Honda-exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) II body structure, which provides for enhanced protection for vehicle occupants.  Included among the many standard safety features are:

    •     Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution

    •     Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control

    •     Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH)

    •     Dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags

    •     Side curtain airbags with rollover sensor

Honda has shown their commitment to providing safety systems that not only protect drivers and passengers in their own vehicles, but also occupants in the cars around them, as well as pedestrians. The advanced engineering and intelligent technologies employed in these vehicles have been proven to enhance safety on the road.

Both the Honda Civic 2-door and 4-door models are featured at Team Honda.
