Follow on Google News | Bel Canto Boy Choirs Celebrate Fifth Anniversary and Announce AuditionsBy: Bel Canto Chorus Bel Canto Boy Choirs, under the direction of Ellen Shuler, are looking for boys who love to sing to join them for their 2013-2014, fifth anniversary season. This season the Boy Choirs will perform with Bel Canto Chorus on the “Christmas in the Basilica” concerts in December and “Carmina Burana” concert in May, and present their own concert, “Make a Joyful Noise,” in February 2014. Interested boys entering the third through twelfth grades, with unchanged or changed voices, are welcome to audition. Auditions will be scheduled on an individual basis. Interested singers should prepare a simple song (such as “My Country Tis of Thee”) and will be led through some vocal exercises. Interested boys are invited to attend a no obligation “Try It, You’ll Like It” rehearsal on September 5, 12, 19, or 26. About Ellen Shuler Ellen Shuler holds bachelor and master degrees in music education with choral emphasis. Prior to founding Bel Canto Boy Choirs in 2009, she served as a conductor with the Milwaukee Children’s Choir for seven years. Shuler is currently a music educator at University School of Milwaukee, and directs the youth choirs at Mequon United Methodist Church. About Bel Canto Boy Choirs Formed in 2009, Bel Canto Boy Choirs are the first independent all-boy choral program in Southeastern Wisconsin. Bel Canto Boy Choirs allow talented young male singers the opportunity to perform while growing musically and socially within their own peer group. Known affectionately as (BC)2, the program emphasizes the development and understanding of singing skills. Music Director Ellen Shuler teaches musical concepts, theory, aural training, and sight singing at weekly rehearsals. Performances are held several times throughout the year.
