Success Mentors International Releases Tips On Citing Sources In Presentations

Success Mentors International (SMI) has released an article detailing how to properly cite sources in a spoken-word presentation.

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Aug. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Citing sources in a presentation, when not done correctly, can be messy, awkward, and even boring. This basic presentation skill can trip up even the pros. But, as Delva Rebin, Co-founder of Success Mentors International demonstrates, it doesn't have to be difficult. In her latest article, she details some ways to informally cite sources in a spoken-word presentation, and some instances when a formal citation is needed.

“Most informal citations require only the context of the information in order to make the audience understand it,” she says. “Just enough of a background to let the audience get their footing in the subject matter is sufficient.”

Delva Rebin details some situations in which a formal citation is appropriate - direct quotes, arguments that rest on regulations or statutes, and collaborative research projects.

As a lifetime professional speaker, Delva Rebin notes that this basic presentation skill can be mastered and used for greater impact in every presentation one makes. She recommends using common sense when deciding what kind of citation is needed, quoting the adage "Give credit where it's due, but don't bore us with it." She advocates always using citations that don't break up the flow of a presentation or overwhelm the audience with extraneous information.
