Umniah Continues to Receive Applications for Its Joint Acceleration Program with Plug and Play

Aug. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Umniah has confirmed receiving several applications of companies seeking to enter the Umniah - Plug and Play competition in which winners will be sent to Silicon Valley to attend a three-month course. While there, these emerging technology businesses will benefit from the expertise of renowned companies, as well as attract global investments and future partnerships.

 

The local telecom company announced that the submission of applications will take place till August 11^th and, so far, more than 70 applications have been received. The doors are still opened for all interested emerging technology businesses to apply through the following URL: www.umniah.com/PlugandPlayJordan

 

Supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - Jordan and the Information and Communications Technology Association (Int@j), the acceleration program was organized to support companies in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector and help them attain valuable experiences that can be assimilated into the local market. Umniah’s affiliation with Plug and Play aims at bridging Jordan to California’s Silicon Valley.

 

Plug and Play—a leading business accelerator—has set the following guidelines that must be met for companies to be qualified to enter the competition: the company must be registered in Jordan and established for more than a year; the project must show distinctiveness and be applicable in the local market; considerable consumer demand must be seen; and how investments would help the business expand its operations. Were after the submission phase closes, applications will run through an evaluation phase from a certified jury panel.

 

Umniah’s CEO, Ihab Hinnawi said, “Entrepreneurs can take advantage of the opportunity at hand which allows them to excel regionally and globally. The initiative is the first of its kind in Jordan, and with the support of USAID and Int@j, we have forged long-lasting relations with our affiliates in Silicon Valley, giving the opportunity for local emerging companies to attract new investments and get the benefit of Plug and Play’s expertise.”

 

Mr. Hinnawi later added, “It is of great importance that the government and companies from both the private and public sectors support initiatives like this one, as it help  entrepreneurs expand their reach in the market. Such projects seek to distinguish the Jordanian human resources and its pilot projects which appear in the industry of internet and content, all of which help Jordan become more competent on a global scale.”
