• Making this data available to users via the Internet

Pioneers in Cloud Computing

Nextpoint pioneered the use of cloud-based software in litigation over 8 years ago, with the release of its first product offerings. The company was the first to validate cloud computing as a means to address exploding volumes of data involved in litigation. The technology protected in this patent award gives Nextpoint customers the power to manage all phases of the litigation process in the cloud, including tagging, retrieving, reviewing, bates stamping, and exporting electronic data.

Recognizing that the legacy network-based systems prevalent in the legal industry were no longer viable, the company blazed a new path toward efficiency. “The on-premise software in use 20 years ago had served its purposes, but technology has evolved since then.  Today, the best solution available is to use the cloud in order to manage large volumes of data, ” says Rakesh Madhava, Nexpoint’s founder, CEO, and co-inventor named in the patent. “We knew in 2005 that this was a truly important and novel approach, and are thrilled that the USPTO has come to the same conclusion.”

A Culture of Innovation

This patent recognizes Nextpoint’s development of progressive, highly-advanced litigation technology designed to meet the unique needs of legal processes. “The award reflects our early and substantial investment in cutting-edge research and development efforts,” says Jim Halberg, Nextpoint’s Managing Director of the Nextpoint Lab, the company’s research and development group based in Madison, Wisconsin.

The company plans to continue redefining the state-of-the-art in litigation technology. “While it is now industry vogue to be ‘in the cloud,’ that certainly wasn’t the case eight years ago.” says Rakesh Madhava, CEO of Nextpoint. “This patent makes it clear that our technology is truly unique and ahead of the rest of the industry. Most importantly, this patent is great for our clients, who are assured they are partnering with the most innovative, customer-centric company in the legal industry.”
