HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Aug. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Adding to an already stellar reputation for vehicle safety, Mitsubishi received yet another Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. This one goes to the new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, a wildly popular crossover SUV currently featured at Hilton Head Mitsubishi, a dealership serving coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry.

The new Top Safety Pick+ designation is the highest award offered by IIHS. It recognizes vehicles that provide superior collision protection across the board.

Ratings of “good,” “acceptable,” “marginal,” or “poor” are awarded to vehicles based on the results of a series of rigorous crash tests, including moderate overlap frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact, and rollover. In addition, seatbelts and head restraints are evaluated on their effectiveness.

In order to earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must score a "good" rating in at least four of the five tests, and at least an "acceptable" in the fifth test.

Out of the 15 vehicles in the small SUV class that were tested, only three earned the “plus” designation, and two were Mitsubishi vehicles: the Outlander and the Outlander Sport.

The outstanding performance of the new 2014 Outlander in these tests is due to the advanced design and the high-tensile steel construction, as well as the Mitsubishi-patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) technology. A system of integrated crumple zones and reinforcements engineered to absorb energy, RISE technology provides maximum protection to vehicle occupants.

The new Outlander also benefits form the inclusion of advanced safety systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, and Lane Departure Warning, which is offered as part of the Touring Package for the SE and GT models.

Those interested in learning more should contact the team at Hilton Head Mitsubishi — they will be more than happy to relay all the details on the award-winning safety features of the exciting 2014 Outlander.
