DENVER - Aug. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Despite a troubled economy, medical tourism shows promising signs of continued development in Mexico, especially in locations that feature both surgical and relaxation spa offers. In addition to magnificent beaches, history and culture, the Mexico offers great value for health and spa clients for visitors to enjoy facilities for fun, well-being, surgery, diagnostic testing, and high quality affordable medical care. In addition to private clinics (hospitals) and medical centers, pharmacies, dental and vision health services are available both along the U.S.-Mexican border and in the interior and coastal areas. These medical tourism providers offer high-tech, good quality and affordable private health services with rapid access to expats and medical tourism clientele that choose health travel solutions when they need to receive medical care.

Organized by Carlos Arceo Real, the 4th Mexico Summit on Medical Tourism Business will focus on the organized development, operation and branding of medical tourism services and a cluster infrastructure developed between hotels, resorts, other tourism suppliers and medical and spa facilities.

The Forum will be held 16-18 October, 2013 in Mexicali Mexico.

Maria K Todd, MHA PhD, CEO and founder of The Mercury Healthcare Companies will be on hand for this event to speak about how hospitals, hotels, restaurants, colleges and university training programs and other members of the local health and tourism value chain can prepare to participate more aggressively in medical tourism and health travel in Mexico.

In 2003, Todd organized the largest globally integrated health delivery system® in the world, with headquarters in Denver, Colorado.  The Mercury Health Travel network is designed as an accountable health care organization for use by self-funded employer group health plans and has more cloud-based technology and healthcare management infrastructure than most physician-hospital organizations in America. It has more than 15,000 approved surgical facilities that offer bundled case rate pricing in the USA and 95 other countries, similar to the program that was announced on January 31, 2013 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) in the USA. Mercury has offered bundled case rates for surgery since 1997.

She is the author of four books on medical tourism, including the Handbook of Medical Tourism Program Development, the Medical Tourism Facilitators’ Handbook, and the Employer’s Guide to Medical Tourism Benefit Design. These four books complement her eight other books on managed care, physician hospital integration and alignment, and concierge medicine. The first two books focus on the travel and logistics coordination aspect of medical tourism while the latter is aimed at government, hospital and hotelier audiences to help governments and integrated health systems launch a medical tourism programs at a hospital, surgery center, clinic or spa, many of which are undertaken as a public-private partnership (PPP).

No stranger to the Mexican healthcare scene, Dr Todd will include observations from Mexican health tourism cluster audits in her session and share insights on the way forward for Mexico in health tourism.

“Once again, I am honored that Carlos has requested my assistance for the fourth consecutive year as part of his trusted advisory team to select and vet high-quality educational content and knowledgeable speakers.  It is my pleasure to participate and wish him continued success” Todd remarked.

Todd also acts as the Executive Director of the Healthcare Business Institute, an international nonprofit NGO that manages framework projects for medical tourism and hospital development. The HBI, at the Posner Center for International Development is part of a large international development NGO collaborative that brings training and professional capacity development to healthcare and tourism organizations and government-sponsored training programs around the world.

This year, Mercury Healthcare International not only will participate as workshop speaker, but will also participate in the B2B meetings for its Mercury Health Travel Program, the largest medical tourism provider network in the world, that serves serving employers and insurers in the group health insurance benefits market, exclusively.

For the first time, MHI will host a stand in the exhibit hall where several of the Mercury Advisory Group consultants will also be present to greet conference delegates and share tools, tips, ways to help the hospitals, clinics, hotels, resorts, and spas grow their medical tourism business.

“Mexico has great potential for medical tourism. I have personally inspected and reviewed more than 40 Mexican hospitals throughout the country and worked with several officials from the Secretaries of the Economy, Health, Educations and Tourism of several states in Mexico. Their forward movement with medical tourism will foster economic development, build capacity, and build the local health value chain opportunities for strong Mexican community health services, while also building a strong tourism economy from the taxi driver to the hotels, restaurants, and hospitals, with sustainable jobs at every skill level.”

I strongly recommend that anyone with an interest or stake in Mexican health tourism make it a point to plan to attend this significant industry conference”, Todd added.
