LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Aug. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Tim DeBenedictis, the founder of Skycube who raised more than $116,000 dollars for a self-launching satellite, talked space, stars, and funding his dream project in the first August Heart of Business Podcast. During the podcast, DeBenedictis dished on how he and his team inspired thousands of people to sponsor a Kleenex box-sized satellite that will spend 90 days in orbit, photographing the planet and broadcasting personal messages before disintegrating on re-entry.

“When you talk about Kickstarter, it's rare to have someone speak so openly on how they raised a significant amount of money for something that's not a physical item that people can touch or posses,” says Andy Shore, Heart of Business co-host and content and social media manager for Benchmark. “Tim spent more than 30 minutes discussing everything from how the last Space Shuttle launch inspired the project to what to expect, step by step, when the launch takes place.”

The Skycube satellite will be launched into space via rocket in 2014, feature its own Twitter feed, and send out messages every 10 seconds. Kickstarter donors can track the satellite via the Satellite Safari app, which tells them when the Skycube is in range of one of four listening stations. Donors can request that the satellite send out personal messages during that window.

The twice-monthly Heart of Business podcast, sponsored by email marketing service Benchmark, boasts thousands of listeners and focuses heavily on guests who have interesting backstories and solid advice for small business owners. The DeBenedictis interview was the seventh episode of the show, and past guests have included Kevin Browning of the Band Umphrey's McGee, former White House Photographer Paul Morse, and world-renowned beer expert Evan Rail. The show uses a revolving co-host format, and Benchmark's Madison Moyd played co-pilot for the Skycube interview.
