Top skating demos lined-up for Summer Roller

SWANSEA, Wales - Aug. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- SWANSEA will be transported back to 1970s California next week when a glamorous roller-skating demo team shows amateurs the ropes.

The locally-based Roller Reaper Girls will be taking to the 30-metre by 20-metre roller-skating rink forming part of Swansea Council's Summer Roller event with a series of demonstrations set to top disco tunes from the past.

Summer Roller is taking place at Museum Park from August 14 to August 27 – the location that plays host to Waterfront Winterland every Christmas.

Other free entertainment will include a disco night, face-painting, magic shows and Punch and Judy shows. The Swansea Library Service will also be on hand with stories for small children and the Council's Active Young People Team will be there too.

Summer Roller will be open every day from 10am to 9pm. It will also include a booth where people can hire roller-skates as part of the price.

Nadia Watters, one of the founding members of the Roller Reaper Girls, said: "Summer Roller is a fabulous opportunity for people of all ages to get involved in roller skating and roller sports. Reaper Roller Girls is a local Roller derby team. We're really proud to be part of this event and will also have some of our girls present who can answer any questions about the sport and the team."

Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "The interest in this event on social media websites like Facebook has been really encouraging because many people have not only given it the thumbs-up, but they've been sharing the information with their friends too. Summer Roller will generate a fantastic atmosphere and recreate the buzz and excitement of Waterfront Winterland in August."
