NEW YORK - Aug. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council (The Council) will hold its 18th Annual Networking for Scholarships on August 12 at the Montclair Golf Club, located in the lush rolling hills of West Orange, New Jersey.

Networking for Scholarships is a day packed with athletic activities and business networking. There’s golf, tennis, a swimming pool, a branding workshop, networking luncheon and an awards dinner.  Attendees can choose from an assortment of leisure interests, such as: a putting contest, board games, the “Building Your Personal Brand” workshop and more. The Montclair Golf Club offers golfers 36 championship holes in four 9-hole courses, seven beautiful tennis Hard Tru clay courts and a newly renovated swimming pool.  In 2009, the club was recognized as a Platinum Club of America and one of the top 100 country clubs in the nation.

“People do business with people they know.  Each year, this scholarship fundraiser gives The Council’s minority suppliers the opportunity to casually network with some of the New York and New Jersey metro area’s leading corporate supplier diversity executives. Many business relationships have begun on the golf course,” explained Lynda Ireland, president and CEO, The Council.  “Another benefit of Networking for Scholarships is business education.  To assist the business development of The Council’s minority suppliers, 50 percent of the net proceeds from the event are utilized toward scholarships for qualified Council-certified MBEs.”

In order to accelerate development of MBEs, 50 percent of the net proceeds of this event will be utilized toward sponsorship of qualified and eligible Council-certified suppliers to the following education programs: Advanced Management Education Program (AMEP) at the prestigious Kellogg School of Management, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and the Discover U Program

“I truly appreciate the honor and privilege of attending the Kellogg AME Program. Sometimes, as business owners, we get caught up in the day-to-day operations of the business and lose sight of the big picture,” said scholarship winner Laura Lovell-Scercy, president of HP Solutions, Inc., a Council-certified MBE. “This program has re-energized my spirit and provided invaluable insight, understanding and a clearer sense of direction.”

Theresa Harrison, director of supplier diversity at Ernst & Young, is the chairperson of Networking for Scholarships. Ernst & Young is the lead sponsor.  The gold sponsors are BNY Mellon and Con Edison.
