Follow on Google News | Residential plans for former Mackeson Road meat processing factoryRyden, on behalf of VION Food Group, has successfully obtained outline planning permission for residential development of the former meat processing plant on Mackeson Road, Ashton under Lyne, Tameside.
By: Ryden The factory, which extends to 117,000 sq ft on a site of 5.38 acres, has been on the market for industrial use since it became surplus to requirements in 2009. During that time it has failed to attract any employment interest. Ryden’ Indicative layout plans, prepared by Aedas Architects, show that the land could provide around 92 housing units, across various house types. Ged Hainey, planning associate at Ryden, said: “We are delighted to have secured outline planning permission for residential development, subject to a section 106 agreement, for VION Food Group. It has been almost four years since the factory closed and the property is no longer suitable for continued employment use. Given the residential properties and school located nearby, housing is considered to be the only viable and indeed most appropriate use for the site.” Steven Jones, senior surveyor at Ryden, commented: “The redevelopment of this locally important brownfield site for residential use will greatly improve the environment at Mackeson Road by removing a large, unattractive industrial building; much to the pleasure of the nearby residents.” For further information on the site / planning application visit: http://www.ashtonunderlyne.ryden.co.uk/ -ends- Notes to Editors Ryden is an independent commercial property firm operating a full-service practice.
