About CNA

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps patients with healthcare needs under the close supervision of Registered Nurse (RN). The role of CNA is to provide medical care and comfort to healthcare patients.

Normally, CNA works at Hospitals, Nursing homes, Adult day care centers and Residents (patients who needs long term care) to supports as facilitator to patients with close supervision and guideline of RN or LPN (licensed Practical Nurse).

Demand of CNA

The demand for CNAs is high; especially among those institutions that provides continuing care and assisted living for the elder community. Data says that, Employment of nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants is expected to grow by 20 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Because of the growing elderly population, many nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants will be needed in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes.

Basic Duties / Responsibility of CNA

ü  Manage residents living areas neat and clean

ü  Assisting residents to move around safely

ü  Clean patients (examination/living) rooms or other patient areas

ü  Apply clean dressings, slings, stockings, under direction of registered nurse.

ü  Any other duties assigned by RN which includes documentation or reporting of patients health records.

Pay scale

The median annual wage for nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants was $24,010 p.a. in May 2010 / $ 11.54 per hour (Data as per department of labor statistics)

Becoming a CNA

To become CNA one has to….

Ø  Undergo exclusive training with theory and practical lab training as part of study program

·         90 hours training includes 50 hours classroom and 40 hours lab in Nursing home

Ø  Clear the exam to become qualified nursing assistants.
