AUSTIN, Texas - Aug. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, TX (August 1, 2013) –Sweet Leaf® Tea,a brand known for its authentic, organic and/or all-natural teas and beverages, commits another “sweet act” by providing a generous in-kind donation of much needed office and technology supplies to Girlstart, an Austin-based nonprofit benefiting young girls. The donation will benefit Girlstart’s comprehensive science, technology, engineering and math educational (STEM) programs.

With a mission to empower girls in science, technology, engineering and math, the Girlstart program was in need of back to school supplies for the upcoming school year. Sweet Leaf® Tea’s recently launched Be Sweet Out There™ campaign, a nationwide push to encourage random acts of sweetness, was the perfect excuse for the premium beverage brand to give back to its home market. To jumpstart the Back To School STEM supplies drive, Sweet Leaf® Tea is donating computers, keyboards, monitors, speakers, office supplies and more to benefit over 1,000 students at 44 schools across Texas through the Girlstart program.

“We are thrilled to be the kick-off donor for Girlstart’s Back To School STEM supplies campaign,” says Meghan Conboy, Marketing Manager of Sweet Leaf® Tea. “We’re so excited to support such an important cause in our hometown and hope others will join us in our vision to make the STEM supplies drive a success.”

Girlstart’s mission is to increase girls’ interest and engagement in STEM areas through innovative, nationally-recognized programs. By empowering more girls to continue STEM studies, Girlstart hopes to address the nation’s STEM workforce inequities and impact innovation and economic development in America and across the globe.

“We appreciate Sweet Leaf® Tea’s generous donation of school supplies to our fast-growing Girlstart after school programs,” says Julie Shannan, deputy director of Girlstart. “Their gift will help us bring free STEM education and inspiration to students in Texas, and will help us in our ongoing goal to inspire more girls to pursue STEM degrees and STEM careers, in order to take on the world’s greatest challenges.”
