By: NYC Peace Museum Inscribed with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” The World Peace Prayer Society will lead a Peace Flag ceremony followed by a procession into the church for a night of entertainment and a special tribute to the memory of Toshi Seeger, the wife Pete Seeger, who grew up in Greenwich Village. Following the tribute, there will be an evening of dance and performance featuring Peter Yarrow, Atsuko Yuma, Russell Daisey, The Peaceniks, Hilario Soto, Bill Shuman, Ray Korona, and Julie Lauren Stevens. At 10:02 pm, there will be a bell ringing ceremony to commemorate the exact moment of the Nagasaki bombing. The evening will end with the singing of John Lennon’ On display throughout the church will also be an exhibition of children’ This event is organized by St. John’s Lutheran Church and the NYC Peace Museum, and sponsored by The World Peace Prayer Society, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Hugg-APlanet, Good News Broadcast, and We, the World. Universal Peace Day (UPday), a program of the NYC Peace Museum, brings people around the world together to share their vision of peace and to transform a remembrance of horror into a rededication of life. The legacy of UPday, sponsored by Art For The People, began in 1984 in Central Park, where Peter Yarrow and others performed before a candle lighting ceremony at the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing.
