SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Aug. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Capitol Seminars will next present its popular introductory and advanced courses in governmental advocacy Thursday - Friday, August 22-23, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Suite 2220,  Esquire Plaza, 1215 K Street in Sacramento, California. “The Legislative Process / Lobbying 101” will be presented August 22 and “Lobbying 201” on August 23.

“Attendance at our seminars continues to grow,” says Capitol Seminars founder and presenter Ray LeBov. “The word has gotten out that we deliver the goods in terms of valuable information about how to be an effective governmental advocate. We’re seeing more and more senior level people from lobbying firms, law firms, associations, universities and public agencies at our seminars. So we’ve created a networking opportunity as well as a learning opportunity.”

“Our seminars emphasize that a lobbyist not only needs to keep up with the sheer volume of bills introduced in each session of the legislature,” says LeBov, “but to be truly effective, he or she needs to track the budget process, gauge which way the wind is blowing in the governor’s office, anticipate the regulatory response to new legislation, and develop media strategies to support his or her work .“

“Lobbying 101” provides an introduction to the California legislative process and best practices for effective advocacy, reinforced by LeBov’s real-world insights from 38 years of working in and around the California Legislature.

“One of the basic principles we teach is that legislative advocates can best serve their clients’ interests by building relationships with legislators and their staffs and becoming a trusted and valuable resource for them,” says LeBov.

In the “Lobbying 201” course, LeBov is joined by subject matter experts on the budget process, lobbying the administration, media relations, and regulatory agency advocacy, an area often overlooked by even the most experienced lobbyists.

Capitol Seminars offers professional development opportunities not only to new and experienced lobbyists and their support staff, but companies that engage lobbyists; law firms; trade and professional associations; nonprofit and public interest organizations; city, county and public agency officials -- in short, anyone currently active in, or considering a career in, governmental advocacy or public affairs.

“We recognize that there are many veteran lobbyists who have either taken our courses or otherwise fully understand the basics,” says LeBov. “They can help friends and colleagues by referring them to us, and by sending their junior staff. Some of our clients send all their new staffers to our seminars as part of their initial training.”

Since its founding, Capitol Seminars has hosted more than 1500 enrollees in its introductory and advanced courses. Cost of the seminars is $250 each. For more information or to enroll, visit http://www.capitolseminars.net or telephone 916-442-5009.

Capitol Seminars also offers customized on-site training for public agencies, companies and membership associations interested in a convenient, cost-effective means of training larger numbers of staff or members all at once. These training sessions can also be delivered over the web for organizations whose personnel are based in multiple locations.
