SALT LAKE CITY - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Sunday, August 4th is the 5th Annual Book Day at The People’s Market (http://slcpeoplesmarket.org). Book Day is designed to feature local artists of the written word, who join the other artisans and local food producers at the weekly Sunday market. The annual event offers a book swap, where all patrons are encouraged to bring their books to swap.  In addition this year’s event features several local authors, including:

•Jesse Parent—Salt Lake City Slam Poetry

•Angie Watson—Short stories and poems

•Wendy Knight—author of Fate on Fire and the Fuedlings fiction series

•Sophie Haws—author of Free Hummingbirds: How I Learned To Embrace Myself, a memoir

•Lisa Actor—author of Rebel Raiders, a middle school historical fiction book

•Martin Wilcocks—poet and author of A Book of Poems

Each performer has an author’s area where they perform, sell and sign their works, and answer questions about their work, and the road to authorship.

Local organizations, including the SLCC Community Writing Center will have booths and be offering a variety of services throughout the day.

The Community Writing Center through the Salt Lake Community College offers free writing help services to residents. Salt Lake area residents wanting writing help will have an opportunity for assistance with the writing process of any style. Anyone who has ever put pen to paper, whether a letter, short story, or resume, needs to ensure they have good writing skills.

The People’s Market is open from 9 am – 2 pm on Sundays from May through October. All merchandise and foodstuffs sold at the market must be locally created or produce by the participating vendor, so it truly is a local marketplace. Its glorious location at the International Peace Gardens, and adjacent to the Jordan River Parkway makes it an ideal spot for a family outing that is both fun and supports the local community.

About Salt Lake City People’s Market

The Salt Lake City People’s Market is a non-profit, 501-C3 organization dedicated to local farmers, artisans, crafters, and food suppliers.  All items sold by market vendors must be self-produced and no resale items are allowed. A Local First Utah member, this fits the group’s mission of focusing on community and the buy-local movement.

Vendor participation is priced well below other local markets to encourage growers, producers, and local artisans and crafters to develop a business or additional market outlets. A Young Entrepreneur’s program encourages aspiring young entrepreneurs to participate in the market.

Diversity is celebrated by the organizers of the People’s Market, and reflects the eclectic mix of cultures in Utah. There are several Special Event Markets each season, and the entire list is posted on the organization’s popular Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/PeoplesMarket
