"Life History: The Who I Am" - Memoir: A Grandmother’s Love Is Sometimes Enough

Who we are is shaped by many things, with our childhood providing the foundation.

NEW YORK - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Who we are is shaped by many things, with our childhood providing the foundation. The eye-opening memoir Life History: The Who I Am was written by a woman raised by her grandmother.

Recognizing that her grandmother’s influence was life-changing, she still believes that child care is a joint responsibility, and that no child should be deprived of the opportunity of growing up under the care of two responsible parents. Grandparents can willingly help when necessary as extended family, but it should not be their sole responsibility.

Effective parenting brings about a healthy nation if parents are responsible enough to make their children their first priority. But sometimes this is not the case. The author writes: “When I first met and stayed with my mother, we were strangers. Inwardly, I used to compare her with my grandmother, and could see many loopholes, and her mistakes, of which I said to myself I did not want to emulate her or even allow her to take care of my own children, because she was not like my grandmother. Thank God I was not brought up by her.” Sometimes it does take a village to raise a child.
