‘Who is this?’ The Fastest Gulet in Turkey

Traditional gulets have been known, not for speed but rather for cruising and sailing holidays

MARMARIS, Turkey - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Traditional gulets have been known, not for speed but rather for cruising and sailing holidays. Blue cruises in the Mediterranean and Aegean seas, are decorated with Turkish gulets of many shapes and sizes, built from the 1980’s and up to recent times in 2013. In the last few years many new gulets have surfaced where standards of construction and navigational equipment and engineering technology on board have advanced. This development has offered better accommodation and cruising experiences for travelers wishing to explore the turquoise and emerald waters of Turkey’s impressive coastline. In one of the most recent, newly constructed gulets, one that has taken longer than the average 18 months to 2 years to build, is the 33 meter 108 feet Kim Bu gulet.

She was constructed in the town of Bozburun – known for its many gulet shipyards by the sea.  Kim Bu was launched during the middle of the gulet season in 2012. The owner, Captain Kemal has spent over 4 years to complete the construction of his boat. She is presented with modern, light colors, with light teak and varnished mahogany.  With a wide beam of 7.70 meters, the Kim Bu is a greatly spacious gulet for medium to large sized group charters.

When our representative as YNG Yachting asked Captain Kemal to name a feature or two which might make Kim Bu stand out from the other gulets that were launched in the same year he replied with pride. “Kim Bu cruises at a maximum speed of 18 knots. When she gives it all power, she can exceed speeds of over 20 knots. I believe that the Kim Bu gulet is the fastest Turkish gulet in her class in Turkey”, expresses Captain Kemal; and this may be so.

With two 660 horse-power diesel engines, she is bound to have the power for these kinds of speeds. She is huge, powerful and brand new with 5 large double cabins and 2 twin cabins equipped with air conditioning and spacious en suites.

The name Kim Bu translates to ‘who is this?’ in English.  So if you see a fast gulet passing by while out at sea, and ask ‘who is this?’, that is exactly what you might see – Kim Bu – possibly the fastest gulet in Turkey
