ParetoLogic leads the way at Lawn Summer Nights

VICTORIA, British Columbia - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- ParetoLogic bowled itself to a huge contribution towards cystic fibrosis research.

Participating in the Lawn Summer Nights fundraiser, a team representing the Victoria, B.C. software company raised more than $30,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. This was the most raised by a team in Canada for Lawn Summer Nights -- a lawn bowling fundraiser held in various cities across the country to raise money for cystic fibrosis research. Nationally 900 people took part this year and raised more than $275,000.

“This event gave us an opportunity to bring the community together, spread awareness about the illness, raise a substantial amount of money for CF research and have a lot of fun in the process,” said Elton Pereira, ParetoLogic Co-Founder and Chairman, and a member of the company’s Lawn Summer Nights team.

On ParetoLogic’s fundraising success, event organizer Taylor Lundy commented, “We are beyond grateful for ParetoLogic’s significant contribution to Lawn Summers Nights. Thanks in large part to ParetoLogic, we were able to raise over $56,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada through our Victoria event – all while having fun and building awareness for a meaningful cause.”  

Helping to find a cure for cystic fibrosis is a personal cause for Pereira and members of the ParetoLogic Lawn Summer Nights squad. Lilia Zaharieva, a close friend of Pereira’s, has CF. The ParetoLogic co-founder said he has seen her in her best and toughest moments.

“I felt inspired by Lilia, this event and the substantial impact it has made on the outlook of CF,” Pereira said. “As Lilia summed it up, it created a great amount of hope, laughter, and love.”

Lawn Summer Nights features four evenings of social lawn bowling, and brings together a community of like-minded young professionals. Teams spend a lot of time off the greens coming up with creative ways to raise money – and then carrying out those plans.

“The connection, sportsmanship, and true care that went into the fundraiser and everyone involved were great,” Pereira said. “Fundraising, youthful people, and an unexpected sport came together.”

Lawn Summer Nights started in 2009 in Vancouver. Inspired by their friend Eva Markvoort, who was fighting CF, Duncan Gillespie, Andrew Dalik and Graham Dalik organized the event. After attending the first Lawn Summer Nights, Markvoort passed away. The organizers carry on her mission of trying to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. Lawn Summer Nights events are now held in the Canadian cities of Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto and London.

Pereira has witnessed firsthand the impact cystic fibrosis has on individuals and how it makes life each day that much harder. According to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, one Canadian dies from the disease each week. It is the most common fatal disease for Canadian children and young adults.
