TAMPA, Fla. - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. issued an alert to dialysis patients nationwide on Tuesday regarding the topic of GranuFlo side effects in patients who are suffering from chronic and acute renal failure.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. explained that GranuFlo and its sister product NaturaLyte gained wide popularity after their release by Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) in 2003.  In 2010 the efficacy of both NaturaLyte and GranuFlo was challenged when the manufacturer of GranuFlo reported close to 1,000 cases of cardiac arrest as side effects of its use.  The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. explained that additional side effects of both products include metabolic alkalosis and hypotension.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. explained that GranuFlo is a powdered acid concentrate that is mixed with other components to form a solution called dialysate.  Dialysate is then used in a dialysis treatment.  Dialysis removes the patient’s blood and filters it, the blood is then returned to the body.  Treatment accomplishes the function that is usually performed by the kidneys in a healthy individual.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. explained that patients who are in renal failure typically experience increased acid levels in their blood.  This is due to the inability of the kidneys to naturally filter out bodily acids.  Dialysis uses bicarbonate to neutralize the blood acid levels of a patient.  Bicarbonate levels must, however, be carefully monitored during a dialysis treatment because excessive bicarbonate can cause life-threatening GranuFlo side effects.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. explained that metabolic alkalosis is a GranuFlo side effect that indicates excess levels of base, or alkali, in the blood.  During this condition, the pH balance of a patient is elevated beyond normal levels.  Side effects from metabolic alkalosis can cause cardiac arrest, heart attack and stroke.  All of these conditions can cause death.

Notable side effects of GranuFlo use include:

Confusion.
Nausea and vomiting.
Muscle twitching, and prolonged spasms.
Tingling and numbness in the hands, feet or face.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda encourages anyone who was treated with GranuFlo to contact the legal office to discuss the pursuit of a dialysis lawsuit.

The office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. is located at 703 West Swann Avenue in Tampa.  The law office offers Tampa residents assistance filing BP Oil Claims, title services, personal injury representation and representation in foreclosure cases.  Tampa residents can find the office of Frank Charles Miranda, P.A. online by visiting http://www.fcmlaw.com.
