A new kind of Massage Therapy opens up in New York City

NEW YORK - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Body Mechanics Orthopedic Massage opened its doors on Friday July 26th 2013.  Located at 315 Madison ave. room 2200, it is just across from grand central station. The environment for treatment has been designed to look more like a boutique hotel than your traditional massage clinic. Each room has been carefully and individually designed to be its own unique piece of art representative of the human body.
The traditional form of massage treatment for New York has been that of Swedish massage, which is circulatory in nature, but this clinic focus on the orthopedic aspects of massage. Orthopedics looks to correct impairments in muscle, and soft tissues. Orthopedic massage is a combination of 'sports massage' and 'medical massage' that assesses where and when the body can be developing problems that eventually lead to pain and disease. One of the concepts is that as a person goes through life, they develop thickened scar tissue in some areas that limit circulation and functionality. Correction of these problems through manual therapy can restore blood flow, reduce pain, be a huge asset in quality of life.
The clinic is heading up a few unique programs for the city, including a runners program, a CrossFit program, a TMJ (intra-oral treatment for the condition known as Tempromandibular Joint syndrome) and a pregnancy program. Clients of the pregnancy program are given a bag of tools to help them 'self treat' as well as a pin that say "I am pregnant, let me sit" designed to take the stress out of pregnant subway rides.
The owner of the clinic Beret Kirkeby trained in Ontario, Canada in an Orthopedic specific program that is not available here in the states. After graduation she then worked in the Canadian integrated heath care system for Workman's Comp claims and Unions. When she moved back to NYC she realized Canadians, specifically insurance company's in Canada, were taking advantage of this particular kind of massage as preventive care that was keeping them from paying costly surgery's and medications.  Knowing that those company's were paying to prevent future injury inspired Beret to offer the same kind of services here in New York.
