LOS ANGELES - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- The Downtown Art Center (DAC) Gallery presents the final exhibition in its current location. Titled Horizon Lines, this group exhibition features artworks from ECF Art Centers, a nonprofit organization mentoring and representing adult artists with special needs. Horizon Lines showcases the work of approximately 100 artists and pushes the potential of a variety of mediums, begging the question: “What does contemporary art look like?”

Notions of contemporary painting are questioned by the act of juxtaposing dissimilar works. Representational oil paintings hang with equal consideration next to brightly colored abstractions.

The ceramic work in Horizon Lines reveals a range of techniques from experimental to traditional. Artist Jose Zamora’s architectural vision is captured in his modular structures, which are carefully constructed by a process of clay slab assemblage. Artists Tiffiny Boyd and Chris Dao’s collaborative cast ceramic forms appear as crystalline structures in orbit, covered in colorful glazes.

Horizon Lines also embraces a variety of printmaking techniques – both old and new -- as seen through intaglio etchings, laser-jet lithographs, and a multitude of mixed media processes.

The unique exhibition design features a salon style installation. Artwork wraps around the gallery, hung above and below an invisible horizon.

Horizon Lines is the last exhibition in the DAC Gallery’s current location before its upcoming move to 431 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90013.

ECF Art Centers is a nonprofit program funded by the Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF). The artists of ECF Art Centers are making an important contribution to the emerging contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. In addition to exhibiting their work throughout the region, they have extensive resumes, some having shown at the Smithsonian Institution and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Armory in New York City, the Los Angeles Art Show, and numerous galleries throughout Southern California. All artwork sales directly benefit the artists and provide funds for studio space, materials, and professional art instruction.
