ST. LOUIS - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- As the summer comes to an end and thoughts turn to the back-to-school season, August is the perfect time for parents to make sure their children have all their needed vaccines. In honor of National Immunization Awareness Month (August), the RNs at Nurse Response, a provider of multilingual telehealth services, have put together some information to help parents make sure their children are up-to-date on their vaccines.

“Vaccinations not only protect those who have received them, they also protect others in the community like newborns and people with weakened immune systems. Another benefit is that vaccines can protect future generations,” said Kim Tuck, RN, President & CEO of Nurse Response. “Smallpox is a great example of how immunizations can help society as a whole. Children today do not have to receive a vaccine for this potentially life-threatening disease because it no longer exists due to immunization. If we continue to vaccinate, future generations may not have to face diseases like polio and meningitis that can infect, cripple or kill children.”

According to the CDC, below are the recommended vaccinations for certain age groups. It is always recommended that you check with your child’s doctor to find out what vaccines they need each year:

Younger Aged
• Polio
• Whooping Cough
• Chickenpox
• DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis)
• MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella)
• Yearly flu vaccines (for all children 6 months and older)

Preteen and Teens
• Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)
• HPV (human papillomavirus)
• MCV (meningococcal conjugate virus)
• Yearly flu vaccines

Parents can find out more about the recommended CDC immunization schedule at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents.
