How to Make Vacations Memorable for Kids

Founder of SuperMoms360.com Shares Tips for Making Lasting Memories During Family Vacations

SAN DIEGO - July 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Deborah Stumm, founder of SuperMoms360.com, joined San Diego 6 Monday morning to share tips on how to make family vacations memorable (http://www.supermoms360.com/articles/fitness/making_vacations_memorable_for_the_kids). From scavenger hunts to digital documenting to postcard sending, Stumm’s tips shows how parents can keep their kids excited and entertained while creating lasting vacation memories, including:

1) Do Research Before the Trip – With your help, have the kids look up “things to do” in the city where you will be traveling and make recommendations of landmarks and destinations they’d like to visit.

2) Create a Vacation Scavenger Hunt – Using the information you found during your research, create a list of places to visit, landmarks and even simple items to find (i.e. peanuts from the airplane) that the kids can check off as they find during the trip.

3) Make a Busy Bag for the Trip – Whether you are traveling by car, train or plane, the kids will need things to keep them busy on the journey. Create a travel bag that contains entertaining items such as snacks, books and magazines, Mad Libs, drawing pads and small toys.

4) Snap! Capture the Memories – Using a digital or disposable camera, have your children take pictures of the places you visit.

5) Keep a Travel Journal – Encourage kids to write and draw about their journey as they go. Either do this while traveling to each destination or after each excursion.

6) Write and Send Postcards - Buy postcards at your favorite spots and mail them to grandparents or special friends to tell them about all of the fun you are having. Buy extras for a scrapbook.

7) Purchase Souvenirs - Purchase a small memento from each place you visit to remember the trip. These can be inexpensive and can include ornaments, key chains, maps, pictures, postcards or something unique to the location. You can even start a collection of one type of item.

8) Create Lasting Memories - After the trip, create a family album or scrapbook using the pictures taken during the trip, journal entries, postcards, ticket stubs and other fun memorabilia.
