Press Coverage Spans Across the US and Europe for Dan Coyle's New Album, The Undertow

Internationally touring singer-songwriter Dan Coyle's new album The Undertow is gaining favor with critics, writers, and radio stations across the US and Europe.

NEW YORK - July 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Various media outlets for music features, reviews, and discovery across the US and Europe have embraced Dan Coyle's new album, The Undertow.

Coyle's sixth major album is his first to feature both acoustic and full band versions of each song, and is adding quickly to the songwriter's growing list of acclaimed work.

"I thought it was a really great idea when it first popped into my head," explained Coyle. "But then, just before releasing the album, I had this moment of wondering if it was too repetitive," Coyle said.

This worry was quickly put to rest when The 8th Circuit Network wrote a glowing review of The Undertow saying, "The Undertow is made up of six songs, each song recorded twice, once by Coyle in his signature acoustic and voice, the next with a full band. It's an approach that, though threatening redundancy, works well in Coyle's hands. The arrangements and pace are different for each recording and the listener never gets the impression that he/she is just listening to the same song twice, but a wholly independent song."

The review went on to say, "That said, like his other releases, it is the urban poetry of Coyle's lyrics, and his earnest, authentic delivery, that really drive the record. His lyrics are thoughtful and evocative and never sink to the doldrums of coffee shop pretension. 'Back Around', for instance, is a minor masterpiece that details a casual, yet somehow timeless love affair, that even Conner Oberst would admire."

Included in the list of press and media outlets, are several public radio stations on both continents now spinning tracks from The Undertow. Lewis English included "Back Around" in his "Loosely Folk" playlist, while Ear To The Ground included the same track on their 500th music review post. Rocking Republic also explored Coyle's background, leading up to a brief review of The Undertow.

The highly respected blog Music Under Fire had this to say: "Coyle’s musical and songwriting styles are simple, straightforward and soothing, and he plies his craft with care. He’s also a fan of musician Josh Ritter, and certainly Ritter’s influence can be felt if only subtly, on songs like 'Back Around' and 'Something’s Changed.'"

All of this attention has also put the spotlight back on some of Coyle's previous releases. As Musical News and Views put it, "Don’t miss Coyle’s commanding 'Fallen,' or his evocative 'Fallen Snow,' both on his 2012 'Winter Folk' release. You also might want to check out 'C’est La Vie' from Coyle’s 2011 'From Prague to Paris' release, and 'Listen Closely Now' from the 2009 'Random Thoughts and Incomplete Sentences.'”

Dan Coyle has scheduled tour dates along the east coast for this summer. Fall tour dates are slowly being announced for the Pacific northwest this October and the southeast in November.
