PENSACOLA, Fla. - July 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Escambia County Deputy Sheriff’s Uniform Division of Pensacola, Florida shot to kill a man over 17 times. The 60 year old male, Roy Middleton was in his mother’s car which was in his mother’s carport of the residence where he lives with his wife of 24 years (http://www.pnj.com/article/20130727/NEWS11/130727001/Escambia-County-Sheriff-s-Office-deputy-involved-shooting.) The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department of Pensacola, Florida, deputies shot and tried to kill this man demanding that he put his hands up.  Before he had the chance to comply, deputies opened fire, according to a report that Art Rocker, Chairman of Operation People for Peace, Inc. and Chairman of the State of Florida Southern Christian Leadership Conference, INC. (SCLC) received from victim and his family.

“Our organizations are requesting the United States Department of Justice (US DOJ) do a complete investigation on Sheriff David Morgan and his Administration for the apparent lack of training that his Escambia County Sheriff’s Deputies Uniform Division holds in the area of non violence and reconciliation. It is imperative that this group, particularly officers of the law, learn the significant of respecting people and the use or misuse of their police powers towards those who voiceless, underserved and underrepresented.  It is imperative that those leaders inculcate human dignity and human nobility in all positions, above all public officials and law enforcement officers,” Art Rocker says.

The family members’ who were inside the home at the time of the incident have forgiven all who were involved in this shooting, however, they are very remorseful. Roy Middleton’s mother and wife were commanded not to come out of the door until the Deputies pursued whatever investigation they were doing or covering up. Rocker continues, this all occurred on Saturday morning July 27, 2013 at the home where Roy Middleton’s retired mother has lived for years, who is a former licensed practical nurse.  According to Rocker’s interview with Roy Middleton, the victim had a pencil size flash light in his hand and was looking for a cigarette in the car when police approached him.  Middleton informed Rocker of the significance of the small flashlight, which had been given to him by his lovely daughter five days ago after she returned by the Grace of God serving via the National Guard in a war for democracy in Afghanistan. His daughter gave her father, Roy Middleton, the flash light as a gift, so he could have it for whatever reason he might need to utilize a flashlight.  While utilizing that flashlight Roy received a shot in the thigh and a shot across his side and several others shots in his direction in an attempt to kill him.

Roy Middleton and all the family members are deeply hurt concerning this injustice that occurred in their own driveway. An injustice that occurred in the home that he shares with his wife and mother, in their own carport and in their mother’s car.  Middleton said, “Who would ever believe that someone would be hijacked and have 17 shots or more fired at them at less than 8-10 feet at close range according to the number of bullet holes in their car, carport and yard yet, survive?”  Rocker states, “covered by the Blood of Jesus.”

“It is not surprising for this injustice to happen,” Rocker states.  “The leadership of Sheriff David Morgan of Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has just recently been investigated by the US DOJ. This investigation determined that under Morgan’s leadership, he has segregated Escambia County Detention Centers. Recently, all four (4) of the Escambia County Commissioners with (1) abstained, voted NO to Jail Segregation of African-Americans in 2013 and NO to Sheriff David Morgan being over the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention Office and all (4) commissioners and with (1) abstained voted YES for Sheriff David Morgan to turn over the keys of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention Office to the Escambia County Commissioners under the leadership of Chairman Gene Valentino. The Commissioner said “Bull Conner” you are out.  It has been revealed to Rocker that Sheriff David Morgan is bullying the Escambia County Administrator, who has served Escambia County for a number of years, in order to attempt to make the Administrator give him the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention Facilities back to Sheriff Morgan. In the process Morgan is refusing to work with the County Administrator for a smooth transition of “getting out” during the 90 day interim.

Recently, it has been discovered that Sheriff Morgan relieved the only female African-American public official in high authority from being over the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention Center after the US DOJ investigation, due to the fact that she questioned the various issues surrounding his policies and administration of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention Center.

It has been revealed that the Escambia County Sheriff’s Detention unit is an incubator for locking up more and more African Americans in Escambia County for the sake of receiving funding and placing detainees in jails for profit.  This is a part of one of the worst disparities that has occurred in a county that consist of over 40% African American residents but only employs 15-20 Deputy Sherriff’s in the Escambia County Deputy Sheriff’s Uniform division, after being divested from the Detention Facilities.

Sheriff Morgan’s strategy for cleaning up the community is ridding the community of trash that lingers in the streets and vacant lots. He has indicated to Escambia County Community residents that this strategy will rid the County of Crime.  Art Rocker states, “Meanwhile, I say to Morgan, the trash starts at the top of your leadership. Clean your house by resigning for the betterment of all Escambia County Communities.”
