A Gourmet Twist On A Childhood Treat Has People Asking, “Are Marshmallows The New Cupcakes?”

DETROIT - July 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Detroit, MI July 27, 2013– Michele and Kelsey Calpito are thrilled with the response their artisan marshmallows have been receiving around Detroit since their soft launch on Friday, July 12th. Their company Sweet Confections has high hopes to elevate the childhood classic treat to grown–up status with sophisticated flavors such as Hibiscus, Japanese Green Tea, Chocolate Cake and Lavender. But don’t worry, if it’s simply an all-natural, fresher version of the childhood favorite that you’re after, they also offer Classic Vanilla, Cocoa Vanilla, Lemon and Mocha Latte fluff. They openly challenge the notion of the marshmallow as the preservative-laden, bagged, campfire variety and have even converted some marshmallow haters into lovers.

“With the endless possibilities for flavors and ingredients, we believe that handmade marshmallows really could be the new cupcakes”, saiys Kelsey.

After experiencing such overwhelmingly positive response to their marshmallows, the pair now plans to open a confections boutique & café, featuring none other than the sweet, pillowy, ooey gooey cubes of yum. “We hope to be that spot where hard-working Detroit residents and visitors alike can pop in for a well-deserved, momentary, trip back to childhood.” Says Michele “We are dedicated to building the community that we want to live, shop and work in and we believe that our “somewhat sophisticated” confections and the excitement of a developing downtown district are the perfect recipe for a memorable experience for Detroiters and visitors alike.”

The pair has put all of their capital into the startup of their marshmallow business so have turned to a crowdfunding website called kickstarter.com where they will offer pre-orders of marshmallows in brand new and exclusive flavors, entire marshmallow parties, s’mores bars and more to fund what they call their BIG, SWEET Journey. Supporters can contribute ANY amount starting at $1 as no amount is too little or too much and there are rewards at EVERY level of support. Kickstarter is an all or nothing campaign which lasts only 30 days. This means that they ONLY get funded if they reach their goal so they hope that marshmallow lovers will unite and help get the first SWEET boutique & café open in late fall or early winter.
