BOERNE, Texas - July 27, 2013 - PRLog -- On July 9, 2013 the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa Oklahoma approved a million dollar challenge grant for Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries (HCDBM) of Boerne, Texas. The purpose of the grant is to complete a $6 million building campaign for new facilities located just outside Boerne, Texas. The facilities will allow the ministry to expand its operations in over eight Texas counties. The ministry currently serves over 2,000 poverty stricken families and individuals in the Texas Hill County area. HCDBM has already purchased a 10-acre plot of land to be used for the new facilities, located off Interstate 10 and Cascade Caverns Road, in Kendall County, Texas just outside the City of Boerne, Texas.

In a letter issued July 10th by Mabee Foundation Board of Trustees Vice Chairman, Raymond L. Tullius, Jr. issued the challenge of providing $1 million for HCDBM raising $5.2 million.  The HCDBM challenge is to raise funds for a twenty-seven thousand square foot warehouse and distribution facility to move food and supplies in and out to needy families and individuals that the ministry serves. In addition, the new facilities include plans for a four thousand square foot event and program center to serve the ministry and community needs, as well as, a ten thousand square foot administrative building to manage the more than two thousand volunteers and staff that serve the needy.

The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation, Inc., a Delaware non-profit corporation, was formed in 1948 by Mr. John E. Mabee and his wife, Lottie E. Mabee, with its office in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  As stated in its charter, the purposes of the Foundation are to aid Christian religious organizations, charitable organizations, institutions of higher learning, hospitals and other organizations of a general charitable nature.

The activities and affairs of the Foundation are managed by a Board of Trustees consisting of Thomas R. Brett, Ed Jones, Joe Mabee, Guy Mabee, Jr., John W. Mabee and Raymond L. Tullius, Jr. The geographical area of interest of the Foundation includes the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

From the date of its inception through the most recent fiscal year, grants paid by the Foundation to various educational, religious and charitable institutions have totaled in excess of $935,000,000.  The Foundation’s giving is divided approximately – 34% to private, independent non-tax supported colleges – 43% to community activities, including Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, Girl Scouts, YMCA, YWCA, children’s homes and organizations which care for handicapped, abused and neglected children and adults – 4% for religious affiliated organizations, including seminaries, campus ministries, Christian camps and centers – and 19% for scientific, health and medical activities, including principally grants to hospitals and healthcare activities.  At August 31, 2011, assets of the Foundation had a total value of approximately $770,000,000.

Mr. and Mrs. Mabee were natives of Missouri.  They had no children.  Mr. Mabee died in 1961 and Mrs. Mabee died in 1965, leaving a substantial portion of their personal estates to the Foundation.  The Foundation continues to carry on its purposes – under the guidance of its Board of Trustees – as a tribute to the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Mabee. The benevolences of this Foundation are evidenced throughout the Southwestern United States and many edifices bear its name.

For its part, Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries is challenged to raise more than five million dollars before the Mabee Foundation provides the capstone payment to complete the improvement projects. The target fundraising date is set at summer of 2014. Improvements are underway today on and near the new site as infrastructure goes in to support the new facilities.

Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries provides assistance across an eight-county, Central Texas area to thousand of families in need. The assistance is carried out through the love of Jesus Christ, by trained volunteers from affiliated churches. These trained volunteers meet with the program recipients on a regular basis and provide assistance in the form of food, supplies, children's programs and guidance on a variety of subject areas. Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries is fueled by its mission to provide support to the poor, through the generous contributions of many people, churches, and community organizations.
