Team Week Kicks off Family Fun for JDRF Walk

AMARILLO, Texas - July 26, 2013 - PRLog -- To kickoff the 2013 Walk Season for JDRF in West Texas, the Branch is hosting Team Week from August 5-9th with family fun events and activities for those participating in the Walk and Rock the Park event at the end of the summer on September 7th.

Those registered to participate in the Fall Walk are getting treated to a fun week of family friendly activities to enrich the Walk experience.  Spaces are limited for the Discovery Center night, Smurfs Movie Night, and Rock Climbing Night at ARCH in Amarillo.  This year's Walk Chairs, Ron and Cheri Boyd, are long-standing supporters of JDRF, as they have a grandson affected by T1D.

Those interested can contact the Panhandle Branch office at 806-356-6042.  To register for the Walk to Cure Diabetes and Rock the Park Events, go to walk.jdrf.org/Amarillo.  Saturday, September 7th, JDRF will host a timed 5K, Walk and Fun Run, and Duncan & Boyd's Diamond Dig at John Stiff Park in Amarillo. with lunch provided by Texas Cattle Feeders Association Cook Teams.  There is a charge to participate in the timed 5K and the Diamond Dig.  Participants are encouraged to fundraise prior to the event to fund education and research aimed at improving the lives of all affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D).  JDRF is the largest non-governmental funder of diabetic research and has funded more than $1.7 billion dollars in research efforts. Forbes Magazine commended JDRF for efficiency this past year. Until a cure is found, volunteers and staff promise to never give up.
