BALTIMORE— Career Communications Group hosts Technology Awareness Program (TAP) Student Leadership Symposium (SLS) at Prairie View A&M University from July 30 to August 1. This three-day camp is designed to emphasize academic achievement, personal health and career development in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to high school students.

Sponsored by the US Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration and ran by the Foundation for Educational Development, Inc., TAP SLS provides a forum for students to learn from industry-leading STEM professionals about careers in science, technology, engineering and math. TAP Student Leaders participate in college preparation sessions focused on goal setting, SAT preparation, and study skills.

During the Symposium, speakers from top government agencies, Fortune 500 companies and University admissions offices will detail the benefits and pathways to becoming a STEM professional. In addition, students will partake in a number of great activities such as cybersecurity exercises that will introduce students to the importance of cybersecurity and show them how they can make a significant impact by entering into the field.

“I feel that the Technology Awareness Program is important because it introduces students to the different career paths in the STEM fields,” said Rayondon Kennedy, Program Coordinator of the TAP Student Leadership Symposium.

“It opens their eyes to the opportunities that lie in front of them, that maybe they never knew anything about. It also gives them a chance to meet professionals in the field who look like them, which assures them that they too can make it to that same level. Students need mentors and idols to look up to, and I believe this program helps give them that.”
