Woodland Tomato Festival

The 6th Annual Tomato Festival in Woodland offers some big changes this year. The event will take place along Main Street in the heart of the historic downtown district, a move away from Freeman Park. Main Street will be closed from First Street to Third Street for the festival activities, with something enjoyable for all ages.

This year there will be lots of food booths, a kids train ride, bounce houses, and other new carnival type games by the Fun and Games Company. There will also be plenty of live music performances, Folklorico performers, as well as tomato-themed competitions.

The Top Tomato Chef Competition between local chefs will start around 11am. This exciting event showcases local chefs who come out to create a three-course meal. Each course must have tomato as a main ingredient. The dishes are judged for presentation, creativity, taste, and of course, the use of the tomato. "We have some pretty talented chefs in our area and it is amazing to see the creations that are made with the tomato," says Sonia Mora, the Woodland Farmer’s Market manager.

The People's Choice Salsa Competition attracts entries from many local restaurants, so get your taste buds ready to vote for the best salsa in town.

The Master Gardeners will also run a delicious Tomato Tasting Booth where you can taste and compare dozens of tomato varieties, as well as a get all of your gardening questions answered. The Tomato Festival will also feature local crafters, artisans and non-profit groups. If you like tomatoes, this is the place to be.

Tomatoes are an important part of Woodland’s heritage and are well worthy of a local celebration. While you are enjoying the tomatoes, you can also enjoy all of the other wonderful produce the local farmers have to offer. The Woodland Farmer's Market vendors will also join in on Main Street for this special celebration. From juicy peaches, strawberries, nectarines to the aromatic basil, bright red beets, naturally colored eggs, beautiful fresh flowers, sweet melons, fresh corn, fresh baked breads and cookies, you cannot ask for more.

The Tomato Festival runs from 9am to 2pm. Local sponsors include Woodland Healthcare, Morning Star Co, Monsanto, Cache Creek Casino, Pacific Coast Producers, Tri County Mobile Veterinary Services, F&F Multiprint and Les Schwab.
