SYDNEY - July 24, 2013 - PRLog -- It has been medically proven, through scientific research and studies, that obesity or the condition of being overweight, is brought about by several factors. It is thought that there are more than 1 billion adults that are overweight and obese in the world. The highest rate, according to World Health Organization or WHO is in America with 62%  of the population overweight and 26% obese. And the lowest according to WHO is in Southeast Asia with a low14% overweight and just 3% obese.

The most common cause of obesity is unhealthy eating practices coupled with a sedentary life style. A high calorie diet is the number one culprit in the growing number of obese people in the world. Indulging in fast food, over eating and consuming large amounts of sweets and carbohydrates are the main contributing factors to obesity.

A sedentary lifestyle means more unspent calories in the body. Without exercise and other physical activities, the body will accumulate more fat cells and what follows is a foregone conclusion.

One consideration is the genetic factor. If there are obese members of a family, there’s a big tendency that siblings will also be obese. However, this is not a forgone conclusion, anyone can control obesity by eating a sustainable number of calories and being active on a daily basis.

It has been proven medically that overweight people are more prone to illness. Doctors all over the world are in agreement that the more overweight the person, the more  they are going to deal with serious health problems at some stage of life.  According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, overweight and obese people are susceptible to coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and Type 2 diabetes. Depression, Cancer, Infertility and Skin infections are also among the long list of possible illness. Fat cells are carried by the blood to different organs of the body where they are deposited. This build up of cells can interfere with the normal function of each organ, resulting in systemic diseases.

Research has been able to prove the connection between fat cells and the different types of disease. In the studies conducted by the American Heart Association on high blood pressure for example, the presence of fat cells on the walls of the blood vessels reduces the size of the lumen. Picture a water hose and its nozzle. The tighter the nozzle hole, the higher the water pressure; and the opposite is also true. When the pressure is continuously high, there’s a tendency that an aneurysm will develop.

An aneurysm is the bulging of arterial wall due to its weakening condition. Two of the most fatal are cerebral and cardiac aneurism.   When cerebral aneurysm ruptures, it leads to a stroke. In the same way the cardiac blood vessel can rupture and cause a massive heart attack. Aneurysms are life threatening and can be avoided by maintaining a health weight, hence keeping the fat cells in the body at a minimum.  Reducing your weight by as little 5 to 9 kilos (11 to 20 lbs)  can significantly reduce the risk of serious illness.

There have been many studies carried in relation to diabetes and obesity. The results have been conclusive that obesity one of the major risk factors in type 2 diabetes. Administrating Insulin is the most effective treatment for diabetes.  Studies carried out by the World Health Organization shows that fat cells are often resistant to insulin which renders it less effective in reducing the presence of sugar in the blood. The rise in blood glucose is known to cause many health defects which include blindness and kidney diseases.   Exercise in the form of a more active lifestyle, and good eating habits will help reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes.

Obesity can also cause back pain, which is not life threatening but never the less can cause a diminished life style.   According to the findings of clinical chiropractor and founder of Palladian Health Dr. Kevin Chichoki, DC.  Excess weight puts  stress on the back; specifically on the spine, with the lower back area being the most affected. With continuous pressure on the spine and back there is a high risk of osteoporosis developing which affects the density of bone mass. This in turn can weaken the spinal vertebrae which is conducive to fractures, causing excruciating pain.

Knee arthritis is also closely linked with obesity. The pressure results in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The meniscus or knee joint cartilage is compromised, either broken or torn. The meniscus is responsible for making the joint move painlessly due to the padding effect. When they’re broken and removed from the end of the bones, every movement creates friction and the pain can be very agonizing. Maintaining your ideal body weight will go a long way in avoiding knee arthritis.  There are other causes of knee arthritis but overweight is by far the main culprit.

There are numerous studies that make it conclusive that cancer and obesity are closely related. The American Cancer Society is fighting obesity by providing children with balanced meals through their State Wide Health Improvement Program (SHIP). Controlling the weight of our children is the best place to start in the war against Obesity which is now the number one cause of cancer.

Obesity is a condition that needs to be treated on a daily basis. It is prudent not  to  simply aim for a temporary weight loss, but to change lifestyle habits, and keep  weight under control permanently. There are many programs that can assist with weight control but not all are suited to all people.   For unbiased advice, encouragement, and recipes go to www.weightlosswowfactor.com and experience the Wow Factor that comes with accomplishment.
