CHICAGO - July 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Among workshops/events offered in August 2013 by the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC), a nationally and internationally recognized women’s business assistance center providing services and programs that support and accelerate women’s business ownership and strengthen the impact of women on the economy, are:

Tuesday, August 6, 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.
“Writing Winning Proposals”
Description: This Women’s Business Development Center workshop is for business owners and managers who want to learn how to differentiate themselves from the competition when responding to a government or corporate Request for Proposal (RFP). We will discuss the top dos and don’ts in responding to RFPs and provide tips to help you develop dynamic proposals. What we will cover in this workshop: determining if an RFP is right for you; what to do before you start writing; tips for preparing dynamic proposals; key questions to ask; common mistakes to avoid.

Tuesday, August 13, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
“Starting a Business in Illinois”
Description: Are you considering starting a business in Illinois? Put yourself ahead of the curve and gain the knowledge you need to assist with a successful launch. This Women’s Business Development Center workshop will address if business ownership is right for you, the transition from being an employee, volunteer, homemaker and/or independent contractor to business owner and more.
Location: Women’s Business Development Center, 8 S. Michigan Ave., 4th Floor, Chicago, IL 60603
Cost: $10.00 in advance, $20.00 at the door

Wednesday, August 28, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.,
“Getting Your House in Order Before You Bid for a Federal Contract”
Description: Being a qualified contractor with the winning bid is only part of what you need to think about when you decide to go after federal work. You also have to make sure you have everything in place to meet the requirements, demands, and expectations of your client – the federal agency. Did you know that…1) You must have the right type of accounting system to handle a federal contract? 2) You may be required to have an affirmative action plan or ethics policy in place? 3) Even as a small business, there are labor requirements you must meet? 4) Landing a large contract may result in different and additional legal requirements?
