Australians bet $30,000 on royal baby

SYDNEY - July 24, 2013 - PRLog -- George remains a marginal $3 favourite at Sportingbet, ahead of James at $3.50. Henry and Arthur have been the best supported since the birth, with the odds of either of those names being backed from $13 into $10.

“We’ve already paid out thousands of dollars to punters who backed the baby to be a boy and have also paid out those who successfully predicted the correct weight,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“One punter had $1,000 two months ago on Kate to have a natural birth instead of a caesarean and that punter collected $2,500,” Brown said.

“We took a significant number of bets on who would be holding the baby when the royal couple first emerged from hospital and one of our punters collected $3,820 after placing $2,000 on Kate,” Brown said.

Nearly $10,000 has been wagered on the name of the baby, with approximately $5,000 of that since the royal birth.

Aside from betting on the name, Sportingbet Australia is also taking bets on when the new Prince will be joined by a baby brother or sister. 2015 is a $2.10 favourite ahead of 2014 at $2.50.
