New book takes humorous look at rules for men

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - July 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Birmingham, Ala. – Birmingham-area resident John Puckett has published The Man Rules, a lighthearted look at 50 rules guys should follow to become men.

"The book grew out of a conversation I had with my agent," Puckett said. "We were talking about an essay I'd written about men's showers in the gym, and she said, 'You really ought to come up with a book of these.'"

Puckett said he initially expressed doubts about the project, but the more he researched the advice and guidance men were receiving, the more he realized how ridiculous the whole subject was.

"You've got well-respected publications like Men's Health telling guys how to style their facial hair like Tony Stark or which colognes are the manliest," he said. "I figured, if that's the level of advice guys are getting right now, being intentionally silly about this stuff can't be that hard."

The electronic book covers 50 rules, ranging from topics such as Personal Appearance ("Don't wear baseball caps backwards") to Sports ("Don't depend on the ESPN information crawl to provide the sports news you want"). A downloadable version is available for $4.99 at Smashwords, an online publishing site, at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/336678, and at online bookstores such as Barnes & Noble, Apple, Kobo and more.
