First Graduate Diamonds class in Jaipur receives diplomas


Jaipur, INDIA – July 20, 2013–More than 20 GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Graduate Diamonds Diploma students from Jaipur and New Delhi graduated today, July 20, in a specialceremony at GIA’s booth at the Jewellers’Association Show (JAS) at the Birla Auditorium. This is the first graduating class from the programme in Jaipur.

Prominent personalities from the gem and jewellery industry in Jaipur attended the ceremony, including GJEPC Chairman Mr. Vipul Shah and Mr. NirmalBardia, President, Jewellers’ Association Jaipurwho distributed diplomas to graduating students. Guests also shared their valuable experiences with the students, extending the learning experience outside the classroom.

“Congratulations to all the graduates and our special thanks to all the dignitaries for gracing this occasion,” said Nirupa Bhatt, managing director of GIA in India and Middle East. “In order to promote world-class education in the industry, we are taking our Graduate Diamonds Diploma to some of the key trade centres across the country, from Mumbai to Surat and from New Delhi to Jaipur. Our goal is to make top-quality education available in cities throughout the country.”

“The experience of studying at GIA has been unforgettable. And the fact that I got to do thecourse in Jaipur was icing on the cake. The moment I heard GIA was introducing the programmein Jaipur, I knew I had to do it,” said Pallavi Jain,a new graduate from Jaipur.

GIA’s Graduate Diamonds Diploma is aglobally recognized seven-week programme that teaches students about the GIA-created 4Cs (Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat weight) of diamond quality and how to grade diamonds using the D-Z colour scale. Students learn to use gemmological equipment to grade and identify diamonds; find out how to detect synthetics, treatments, simulants and fracture-filled diamonds; and how to confidently speak the language of diamonds to suppliers, vendors and customers.
