CANARY WHARF, U.K. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Millions of people across the UK, and in fact the world, have an elderly member in their family that needs some form of care. Government budgets for funding for councils that provide elderly care has been slashed, and a form of ‘neighbourhood watch’ scheme has been suggested.

Britain has a growing elderly population, in the next 20 years figures show that a 60% increase in the amount of elderly that need care is expected. With care budgets being slashed, the public are advised to get creative and use other ways such as looking after your elderly neighbours as a form of care. “Of course it is a sensible idea, and chances are many people already do keep an eye out for their elderly neighbours, but it is not a solution to properly care for the elderly” says Sam, Manager at Fundraising for Change(F4C) based in London, Canary Wharf.

“More drastic action has to be taken to ensure that the elderly are properly cared for, we work with a number of charities, and we care about the protecting the people in our world, however sometimes we also have to look a lot closer to home, not just as a company, but as people” says Emma, Operations Manager at Fundraising for Change, Canary Wharf. Many charities that work with the elderly, are working hard to ensure that they are well looked after and cared for with the donations they have. However huge concern is arising as budgets have recently been reduced, and with an ageing population and a 60% increase in the number of elderly in the United Kingdom expected in just 20 years, figures are worrying, especially for those that will be in the ‘elderly’ bracket in the next 20 years.

“Charities do need to focus on the elderly in the UK, as well as the young and vulnerable, and businesses should be getting involved too, rather than people relying on the kindness of strangers to look after the elderly in their families” says Sam, Manager at Fundraising for Change, London.  As a business, it not only is a great thing to do, but it has a huge benefit to your company’s image,  large businesses and corporations getting involved could really make a difference to those in need, rather than relying on individuals, as well as encouraging other businesses to get involved too.

Whether you donate to a charity, or your business does, now really is the time to get involved, huge benefits are available, as well as the ‘feel good’ factor of helping others. Every little helps, whether it is one person or 1000 people helping the elderly in their road or area, a much larger change should be made to really make a difference.

It could be your or your family needing care in 20 years and simply not being able to get it.
