MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Starting next year, the Chrysler 200 and the Dodge Avenger will be no more. Chrysler executives have confirmed that both the 200 and Avenger will be replaced in 2014 with a new midsize car. This new model, which will be sold beginning in the first quarter of next year, will need to be able to compete with other vehicles in its class, such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

As of right now, Chrysler dealerships across the country, including Bosak Motor Sales in Merrillville, Indiana, know very few details of this new car, as Chrysler officials have not released much information. What is known is that this new vehicle will be built in a plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where both the 2013 Chrysler 200 and 2013 Dodge Avenger are produced.

The current midsize models were introduced back in 2006 and received an update in 2010. Midway through 2013, there had been a combined 136,000 200s and Avengers sold, nowhere near the almost 208,000 Camrys or 187,000 Accords sold. Over 161,000 Ford Fusions have also been sold through June of this year. Chrysler believes this new vehicle will do a better job challenging the Camry, Accord, and Fusion.

Reasons the 200 and Avenger have had trouble competing with other models in the class includes old designs, lower gas mileage, and a noisier engine.

The new 898,000 square-foot body paint facility is approximately 85% complete. It will be able to build and paint any Chrysler model, outside of large trucks and commercial vans. This new facility is set to open later this year or early next year. A $165 million body shop will also be part of the plant. Due to the increase in demand for midsize vehicles, the plant, which was scheduled to be closed in 2009, will remain open and the nearly 2,600 workers will remain employed.

Merrillville-area Chrysler drivers interested in learning more about what this new midsize sedan could possibly offer are encouraged to visit Bosak Motor Sales, located at 3111 W Lincoln Highway in Merrillville. The dealership can also be contacted at 888-356-9692.
