Follow on Google News | EMNARI Completes Community Service ProjectBy: EMNARI EMNARI members work together to plan out the project, estimate materials needed, gather volunteers and sponsors for the materials and labor needed and complete the build. Tom Antonellis, of Carpentry by Tom Antonellis, supervised our latest community service project a deck rebuild and expansion at the Plummer Home for Boys in Salem, MA. An old 8’ x 10’deck was enlarged to more than four times the size of the old deck and updated to current building codes. The previous deck was too small and dangerous for cookouts or gatherings of any kind. The new deck features new synthetic decking and railings, and requires little or no maintenance. There is plenty of room for barbequing and gatherings of the residents to enjoy each other’ The Plummer Home serves the needs of troubled boys and their families as they grow into healthy, successful adults. “ The Plummer Home for Boys was founded in 1855 through the will of Caroline Plummer. She is known as one of the earliest female philanthropists in America for her support of the Salem Athenaeum, an endowed chair at Harvard University for the teaching of Christian morals, and founding the Plummer Home. At the time, Salem was a thriving commercial center and a growing city. Caroline saw her opportunity to help troubled youth avoid incarceration by correcting their ways. She established a farm school where the staff would guide youth toward productive and community-focused behavior. The name and methods of the farm school were changed in 1958 to The Plummer Home for Boys, Inc. EMNARI would like to recognize the contributions of Gary Moffie of the Remodeling Company, Erik Salmi from Concord Lumber for the generous donation of all the building materials required, and Gary Morrison for supplying and installing the footing materials. Donations were also made by Deborah Bishop of Dwell on It, LLC and Jim Marcotte of Dovercraft.
