Follow on Google News | SCVS Celebrates 40 years of local community supportSCVS is a leading support and development organisation, operating in partnership with other likeminded bodies across Kent and providing a wide range of services for the Voluntary and Community Sector, local people, public and private bodies across Swale Alongside employees of SCVS, volunteers and charitable organisations, the Mayor of Swale, Cllr Sue Gent attended, along with Council Leader, Cllr Andrew Bowles and Chief Executive, Abdool Kara. Cllr Bowles praised the strong working partnership that SCVS enjoys with the Swale Borough Council and the excellent reputation established by SCVS locally, regionally and nationally. “It is an honour to be here today for these 40th year celebrations,” enthused Cllr Bowles. “ Chris White, Director, SCVS explained: “It is an achievement that we are all immensely proud of, although the real thanks go to the inspirational people across Swale that have contributed so much time, effort, commitment and enthusiasm to make a difference in our community.” “SCVS is committed to support them for the next 40 years. We know that we face many challenges along the way but as a professional and adaptable organisation we shall continue to promote volunteering and support both individuals and community organisations to help them to thrive and flourish.” In 1973, SCVS had one part time member of staff, and recruited 11 volunteers for voluntary organisations across the borough. In 2012 the organisation recruited 751 new volunteers, providing over 40,000 hours of volunteer time through its different projects and initiatives including Swale Transport Scheme and the New Connections Befriending Service. SCVS now employs 37 members of staff and also acts as an employer on behalf of the voluntary and community sector for an additional 40 local people and organisations. End
