SAN DIEGO - July 17, 2013 - PRLog -- DEBRIS, an award-winning animated short film from animator Anne Walker that brings to life the harrowing experience of 9/11 survivor C.D. Walker, will screen at the San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) as part of their Independent Film Festival. The screening takes place on Thursday, July 18 at 8:10pm in Hall 2 of the Marriot Marina Hotel next to the convention center. The film recently won “Best Animation” at the Female Eye Film Festival, as well as “Best Screenplay” at the Women’s independent Film Festival. The screening will be preceded by a Q & A with Walker, who directed and animated the film, and her crew.

DEBRIS tells the personal story of Anne Walker’s father, who was attending a conference at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. “You hear so many stories about the people who lost their lives that day, but not as many are told about what those who survived that day carried with them” says Walker, who worked for a number of years to bring the story to life. DEBRIS has no dialogue other than a clip from an actual news broadcast on 9/11 and relies on images and music to tell the story of the guilt and terror her father experienced that day, and in the days that followed as he journeyed back home to California.

“When my dad returned from New York in 2001, he was willing to talk to us about the events he witnessed,” remarks Walker, “when I asked he told me: ‘sometimes you laugh, sometimes you scream, sometimes you cry-that's really...that's all there is.’ I dropped the subject, but the idea continued to haunt me.” DEBRIS was developed and animated over a period of four years, while Walker was also working on high-profile animating gigs for the likes of Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and, most recently, MTV’s “Good Vibes.”

Ultimately, DEBRIS is a story of acceptance and new beginnings:  “I wanted to tell a story of a journey,” adds Walker, “of a man facing down his deepest fears, of a stubborn and proud nation suddenly abashed and afraid…and the love that connects all of them.”
