We Need to Rethink and Redirect Everything

Conversation with Alan of Skyflower Hospice by Paul Winters, of the Independent Press Associates

PUEBLO, Colo. - July 16, 2013 - PRLog -- PW: Alan, I attended your discourse last night introducing Skyflower Hospice Care, and I was surprised by a number of items that you brought to our attention. One, you are not a hospice facility, and two, your approach to this very sensitive subject has a very inclusive element to it. ~

AM: Thank you for attending last night Paul, we all had a magnificent evening. And Yes, we are not a facility in the traditional sense. We never have intended to be. Rather, we work with hospices nationally and other care-givers that deal with this immense issue. And I would agree, we are inclusive in the sense, that hospice care “MUST” include everyone who is involved with a persons passing... and then some. ~

PW: It’s your “then some” that I find interesting. That the concept of Hospice, should be expanded beyond the public’s understanding. ~

AM: The word Hospice has evolved to include “ALL OF US” who are within the battle of day to day living, the emotional struggle for relevance and the spiritual battlefields of inner understanding. It’s no easy task to admit that the world feels heavy, and perhaps we as a species have got the message wrong. ~

PW: Wrong in what way? ~

AM: The world we created has become superficial. Our media, our government, spin narratives to sell us everything from their points of view to the very soap we buy. We are inundated with images and information without context. In other words, they attempt to make us all see the world through their eyes and not our own.

We are literately nailed daily with mass information, without any form of aggregation to create context or subtext. There is no time for anything... and this is important, we lost our “Time for Reflection.” And that is one of the major causes that lead to why so many people feel adrift. It’s like sleeping without dreaming. ~

PW: But Alan, we are living in the information age, our technology is what drives us now. We couldn’t survive without computers, our facebook or twitter. The internet is replacing everything from newspapers, books, radio and television and we deliver everything at warp speed. ~

AM: Paul all I can say, a home without books is like a man without a soul. A book is a sensual experience. You can hold it, feel the pages and inhale the unique scent of an old book. If I want, which I do, I underline a passage that I can recite to my wife later or dovetail a page to refer back to. A book becomes part of you. I can fire up a Kindle or an IPad and it takes more time to find a page than it takes to open a page of a book with a nice ornate pagemarker. Literature is not complete until the ink hits the paper.

PW: So, is this just another example high tech low touch within the ranks of our society? Or are you just old school? ~

AM: Paul, we need to rethink and redirect everything we are doing. And I do mean, Everything. We currently live at a different “pulse”... more than any other time in our existence. A few years ago, if a breaking news story was released it took 48 hours for world-wide distribution. Now, it’s 48 seconds.

This is where Skyflower steps in, we say this is real... “There is your Mother, there is your Father or Sister or Son... they are passing from this life and we know you feel helpless... and then we say, Hold On – this is a human being and the tears rolling down your face are real... the pain in your chest is real...  your trembling hands are real.

The meditations are crafted with a perspective or embracing of the moment and not to shy away or perpetuate the lie. One of the most common traits that people experience is, that their sleep becomes one of the most interrupted facets that are symptomatic to the stress they are feeling. Our sleep meditations are very effective under these conditions. ~

PW: But our understanding about a persons passing or death is the end of it... is it not? Traumatic certainly, highly stressful and very hurtful, is it not? ~

AM: No, it doesn’t need to be. The first thing I have found in our research to be known about death, is that our understanding about death is a lie. The tabloid understanding of Death does not exist here in the real world. It is one of the most illusory things we as Americans carry within us.

The secret of knowing death, of understanding death, is not in death itself. We have to go deeper into our existence of what we consider to be real. We have to look, watch, observe, and be aware of what this world is. And the day we have found that the lie has never been, the lie loses its power – because it appears only because we were not aware, it appeared only because we were keeping our own existence in darkness.

PW: But powerful in what way Alan? Death is it... the end. ~

AM: The end of life should be the very crescendo of life. Whenever somebody passes, somebody you have known, loved, lived with, somebody who has become a part of the very fabric of our life, can be touched by the sound of a caring voice.
This is where we design our meditations. That touchstone. A guided meditation to embrace the next step of our existence, because, and I can say with certainty; part of us continues from this life into the next. ~

PW: But now you are speaking about religion are you not? Death is shrouded in mystery and religion, and it’s only through religion that we can understand death. ~

AM: The real “US” is eternal. I read somewhere that “Life is neither born nor Dies” and that statement is the most important thought I have ever read. When we bring our awareness to this subject, and become mindful, we slow down and our pace or pulse of life changes. We mindfully take each step into our full consciousness, the passing of a loved one can become a beautiful event to the closure to a loved ones life when one sees with eyes that can truly see.
~

PW: This approach changes the paradigm on America’s approach towards “the end of life” understanding. So where do you go from here Alan?, what needs to be done. ~

AM: Paul, what we need is fiscal support or supporter’s to take our program to the next logical production step. But if people wish to get involved then I would only ask that they understand what we are asking. It’s about the very keystone of life... the natural conclusion of our human existence and is as natural as birth.

We have set up a crowd-funding site at http://www.gofundme.com/2t95hw for potential contributors to get involved with. And of course, we answer all of our emails, which there are many. But at the end of the day it’s about production and distribution and it simply takes money to craft the meditations. ~

PW: Thanks Alan for your time and message. ~

AM: And all the best to you Paul. ~
