Progressives Pressure Congress to "Heal America"

PDA will continue the Educate Congress campaign at 200+ Congressional Offices across the USA tomorrow, July 17th demanding Congress to Heal America and End Austerity by creating jobs, taxing Wall Street, and expanding and improving Medicare for all.

WASHINGTON - July 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) supporters and allies are recognizing the Anniversary of Medicare by demanding Congress pass legislation to Heal America and End Austerity, specifically H.R. 1579: The Inclusive Prosperity Act—also known as the Financial Speculation Tax (FST) or Robin Hood Tax (RHT); H.R. 676: The Expanded and Improved Medicare For All Act which would guarantee high quality healthcare to all through a not-for-profit program; and H.R. 1000: The Humphrey-Hawkins 21st Century Full Employment and Training Act which would provide a job to any American who is willing and able to work.

PDA National Director Tim Carpenter said, "The Robin Hood Tax would generate hundreds of $billions to fund job creation, expand the economy, alleviate student debt, address healthcare needs, and protect essential programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Expanding Medicare to the entire population would save more than enough to eliminate cost sharing (co-pays and deductibles), and guarantee comprehensive healthcare for all. In addition to creating jobs, the Full Employment and Training Act would address community needs by improving housing, education, job readiness, and infrastructure."

Carpenter added, "PDA will continue the Educate Congress campaign letter drops at Congressional Offices on Capitol Hill and across the USA in July. This broad and growing national campaign will organize visits and letter drops in about 200 Congressional offices again this month--the number we reached in June. We delivered more than 150 letters to Congressional offices in March and April, and 190 in May. The Educate Congress campaign began nearly three years ago, and has focused on common sense solutions to shared challenges including tax, economic and budget policies, ending the war in Afghanistan, protecting voting rights, as well as guaranteeing personhood rights for people—not corporations—through a Constitutional Amendment.

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform American politics and reform the Democratic Party to focus on principles including: economic and social justice; environmental protection; healthcare as a human right; ending corporate rule; election integrity; fair—not "free"—trade; equality for all; and ending wars and occupations.
