CHENNAI, India - July 17, 2013 - PRLog -- The author incubation program of Notion Press offers a never-before platform for authors to showcase their writing talent. This book is a collection of short stories with well sketched characters that appear real enough for a reader to instantly identify with them.

Shades of Love and other stories from India by R. Paul Mohan Roy is an interesting compilation of short stories and the common thread that binds them is that they all probe human relationships. They throw light on how love and bonding lay the foundation of healthy personal relationships and how separation can tear a person down from the very core.

With all stories set in our country, some bear a contemporary outlook while the others refer to the older times. Characterisations are done in a lucid manner with all lead characters taken from India’s social setting. They are so next to life that the reader cannot help but associate with them. Displaying the ups and downs of love, the pain of longing, the trauma of separation and the darkness of disappointment, the author has indeed captured the deepest essence of human emotions.

Think about the plight of the young man who overhears his mother say that she conceived him in sin. The setting where this revelation comes is an ancient temple where the out-dated ritual of offering the girl child to please the local deity was being conducted. The scenic depictions are done so beautifully that readers are instantly transported to the scene as if they were witnessing a firsthand account.

There’s one about a doting couple whispering sweet nothings to each other as they spend the night in each other’s company travelling by taxi. Another story expresses the anguish of a mother whose daughter is abandoned by her husband. Exhibiting tremendous poetic sensibilities, the author uses his gift to express a young girl’s budding affection for a boy. Then there is one that conveys the trauma of a daughter who is pushed to the very edge because of her mother rejecting all marriage proposals under the pretext of the horoscopes not being compatible.

R. Paul Mohan Roy, a graduate of The American College, Madurai, had a successful academic career and is a recipient of the Ph.D. degree from Madurai Kamraj University. As a writer, poetic indulgence and meticulousness in handling emotions can very well be called his forte. The knack he has of story-telling, while taking care to not miss even the smallest of detail makes his creative piece a joy for readers who crave fiction.
