Inspired by Ricardo Semler, our goal is to implementan open form of management where my colleagues have a strong and defined decision-making role. The advantages I see in such managerial model are: increased productivity, improved quality, and reduced costs as already showed by SEMCO’ GUNA Inc is managed with unheard of freedom for an American company. The circular organizational structure empowers responsibility and independence, the team are encouraged to use their abilities and own initiative to set and achieve targets. Allowing employees to have more control certainly increases productivity, but furthermore it promotes a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Morale at GUNA Inc is very high. Flexible working hours have also been introduced. Responsibility for keeping track of them now rests with the individuals as one of the major changes was to do away with the ‘Clock- GUNA is a Sanskrit word for “life energy of all living things” The company has no rules on dress code; the team can be seen in more relaxed and informal attire. Again, it is the people who are important, their clothes are irrelevant. It is evident that team participation and involvement are paramount at GUNA Inc. When making decisions, it is done so as a team. Opinions, feedback and advice are always welcomed.
