MIAMI - July 15, 2013 - PRLog -- [Miami], [Florida], [July 15, 2013] – The Children’s Gallery & Arts Center, Inc. announces a new exhibition titled “From Trash to Art”, also known as “Art & Environment”, featuring the works of young artists ages 4 to 15. The reception to open this exhibit will be Saturday July 27, 2013 from 7:00 PM at the gallery/studio located inside Cauley Square, 22400 SW Old Dixie Hwy. Miami, FL 33170. The exhibition will be open to the general public until September 30, 2013.

The Gallery space will present very interesting and different sets of artworks, including those created with recycled materials. Mixed media paintings on paper and canvas, clay miniatures and Paper Mache sculptures are amongst the works to be displayed. More than 50% of children participating in this project have special needs or a disability; fact that demonstrates the positive impact the artmaking process has on the intellectual and physical development of children.

Carlos Franco, Art Gallery and Projects Director said that they are very pleased with the final results. “Each artwork created is complex, taking into consideration the amount of materials used, the variety of formats, the composition of the stories these kids are telling in a very unique way. Above all, we wish the audience to understand what the exhibit represents as a whole; which is our tremendous respect and love for Mother Nature and the environment. This project is not only a general call to recycle but to put our creative genius to work for a greater good. As artists and educators we understand the challenge of collecting many things with the purpose of creating a new piece of art with all those ready-made objects that were supposed to go to waste. At first you don’t know what to do with them or how the materials will behave under heat or pressure, or if they are compatible at all, but the experience is worth it”. Franco explained that the project itself is a great venue to learn many things about the arts and its relationship with environmental science since every single step taken had the combination of research and hands-on experience. “We want to thank all participating students and their families for attending the workshops; we are experiencing a very high attendance rate. We want to thank each one of our benefactors for financially supporting this long-term project, which currently is in its second phase. Corporations like Macy’s and Target are demonstrating once again their strong giving policy. For the third year in a row these giant retailers are supporting our art education projects and initiatives. Other local organizations are also main supporters like Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Homestead Center for the Arts and Homestead Art Club, in addition to individuals who believe green arts and environmental education play a very important role in our lives. We want to thank Frances Varela and Cauley Square for providing our organization with a wonderful venue to continue our mission and work”.

The exhibit will be open for the general public on July 27, 2013 and admission to the show is free. For more information, please contact Carlos E. Franco @ (305) 258-9901.
